Although cut our  larger, every bag of BEDMAX contains shavings of all sizes.

Along with a significant proportion of bigger shavings there are medium and smaller shavings too, and this mixture creates layers of different sized shavings which perform different functions.

When you make a BEDMAX bed, you will find that the larger shavings naturally gravitate to the top, where they provide maximum cushioning and the best drainage. The smaller shavings filter down to the bottom of the bed, forming a denser and more absorbent layer for moisture draining from above.

However, because they minimise dust and very small particles in BEDMAX, if you maintain the bed properly the absorbent layer will not compact into the hard, uneven substrate that occurs with inferior shavings.

Achieving this layered bed requires no special effort or technique. As you loosen the new shavings to make the bed in the first instance, and then as you continue to loosen it when mucking out, the different sizes will automatically shake down into their respective layers.
